        Facts and Myths about Musculoskeletal Disorders: State of the Art Evidence Provides Some Answers
                                        
Dr. Kurt Hegmann, MD, MPH, FACP, FACOEM –Professor and Director of the University of Utah’s 
                                        Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health
                                        Attorney Robert Zilske - Moderator

Dr. Hegmann is currently completing one of the largest studies ever commissioned by National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health (NIOSH).  Causes and treatments of carpal tunnel syndrome will be used to provide an example of advancing
knowledge.  Data from this large prospective cohort NIOSH study he has been performing will be provided to illustrate causal
factors.  Synthesized evidence from over 300 quality studies of related treatments reinforces some beliefs as facts, while
exposing others as urban myths.

                Dr. Weiner, a Plastic/Hand Surgeon, will discuss the medical aspects of serious wound injuries, treatment options and scar
                maturation. Attorney Wade will provide a legal and procedural foundation for Disfigurement Claims in Wisconsin and helpful
                tools for dealing with them. Attorney Ochowicz will lead a question and answer session with audience participation.

                Breakout Room  1)     Chiropractors & Workers' Compensation: What's the Problem?

Learn the difference between chiropractic medicine and medical doctors. You will also learn what chiropractic notes should
contain, ways to deal with over-treating, and how to better communicate with chiropractors to get what you need. This presentation
will help you to understand the chiropractor’s approach and how you can have a more successful outcome in dealing with a
chiropractic worker’s compensation file.

Dr. Borkowski and Mr. Kruger will educate the audience on the nuts and bolts of what takes place during Functional Capacity
Evaluations and why they are utilized.  Potential problem areas with reliability and validity will be discussed.  Attorney Sachse will
discuss common legal issues that arise when FCE’s are utilized in litigated claims.

Moderator Doug Feldman will present several case scenarios involving various aspects of course of employment law in Wisconsin
and attorneys Mark Ringsmuth and Charles Soule will debate the issue and provide a legal analysis of each scenario covering the applicable case law. This will be an interactive game show atmosphere where the audience gets to vote on what they think is the
right answer!
